Position Overview: 
Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool is seeking a Lower School Assistant Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be someone who is flexible, approachable, has a positive attitude, and loves working with elementary-aged children. Our Lower School consists of Kindergarten through Grade 3.  

The Lower School Assistant Teacher will assist the Head Teacher in the classroom. In this role, you will be expected to positively encourage students to learn and grow, as well as support the mission and curriculum of the school.  

Job Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to): 
  • Assist the Head Teacher to implement a planned curriculum that supports age-appropriate child development.
  • Work with students in small groups, offering direct academic instruction and support to differentiate and meet students’ needs.
  • Prepare materials and set up/clean up the classroom.
  • Use appropriate language and interact positively with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Manage student behaviors.
  • Actively participate in group activities, engaging and leading students in learning and play.
  • Provide supervision to ensure safety at all times, including during unstructured times such as recess.
  • Maintain confidentiality with student and family information.
  • Direct parent questions about students to the Head Teacher.
  • Adhere to Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool’s policies and procedures.
  • Participate in school-provided professional growth and development.
  • Attend periodic community events that may fall outside of regular working hours.
  • Substitute for the Head Teacher in their absence.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with elementary-aged children; classroom experience a plus.
  • Ability to work and move around with young, active children.
  • Ability to use technology and have experience with Google Suite.

Additional Information: 
  • This is a permanent, salaried position.
  • The 2026-2027 academic year for this position begins August 20, 2026 (flexible) and ends June 11, 2027.
  • Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 am-3:45 pm   .
  • Extended Care hours are available for additional compensation.
